HOW TO REPAIR THE LEATHER OF A CAR SEAT?
Renovating with or without repair a recent, antique, even very old, marbled or plain self-coloured leather requires preparation before recolouring.
Whether or not the leather of your car seat is pigmented with a dye finish, it is always varnished. Aniline leather finish (tinted finish leather) is not widely used nowadays in the manufacture of car leather. However, this leather is supple but it becomes dry and brittle when it gets dirty. Only a good treatment with edible oil (or foot of beef) can restore its original strength. Do this treatment 30 days before or after repairing cracks is strongly recommended!
Even if the leather repair products are identical, the repair method differs between a simple repair of cracks, for example, and those of tears that have passed through the leather.

Repair cracks, fissures, snags that have not penetrated the leather
The repair of small holes, snags and cracks is relatively easy with Sofolk leather repair paste. This white pasty product acts as a mastic by filling in rough spots. It is applied with a spatula in small successive layers. In case of over-application, sand with abrasive paper to level and obtain a smooth surface. Repair a tear in the leather of your car seat
As you probably noticed if you have consulted our tutorial mentioned above, it is perfectly possible to repair one or more important tears.
The repair of leather tears is done with Sofolk repair paste. In addition to filling gaps in the leather, it acts as a glue when in contact with it. It will therefore be used to glue a reinforcement (a slightly larger piece of leather), to be inserted under the tear. Once the repair is done, the paste will also fill any gaps in the leather between the 2 edges of the tear.
How do I hide my repairs?
As the repair paste is white, you will have to recolour your repair (original colour or change of colour) in order to obtain a totally invisible result.
Even if we are able to reproduce any colour, it is very inadvisable to recolour only part of the sofa or car seat. A difference in appearance will always be visible.

To make the tear or cut invisible, continue the operation by applying the repair paste and re-colouring.
