HOW TO PAINT LEATHER? OUR ADVICE & SOLUTIONS
What is leather paint?
The term leather paint refers to the process of recolouring leather on the surface, that is to say covering the hide with a coat of dye, just as you would paint an object. With Sofolk pigment leather dyes we are even closer to this definition, since the leather renovation kits for sofas and the leather renovation kits for car seats include a complete foam roller for spreading the dye over the leather like any water-based paint.

Why paint leather?
Dyeing leather makes stains, cigarette burns, scratches, cracks, tears etc. disappear... after repair, by applying several coats of this leather paint. Painting leather is the second stage of leather renovation: you must start by cleaning the leather to extract any fatty substances that may be ingrained, such as sebum, and also to break down the original protective finish.
The Sofolk method gives the repainted leather the fatty substances it needs to rehydrate by applying nourishing oil before or after the renovation, depending on the condition of the leather.
What can you do with leather paint?
Our pigment leather dye will allow you to paint any smooth or grained leather in the colour of your choice. So it is entirely possible to repaint in the same colour as the leather (tone-on-tone colouring), but it is also possible to make a real change of colour.

How do you paint the leather of your sofa?
Your leather sofa is worn and cracked in several places. You are not planning to replace it and would rather renovate it? To give it a like-new look, use a leather paint. After carrying out the necessary repairs, this solution will give your sofa a new lease of life. There are different types of dyes for dyeing leather. Sofolk offers you a range of quality products and a wide choice of colours.
Pigment leather dye: an easy-to-use dye for a long-lasting effect
Pigment leather dye is applied with a brush or sponge to both leather and artificial leather. Although it is easy to use, it is necessary to carry out the surface preparation steps before any application. Our dye does not, however, require an adhesion primer.
For better durability, it is essential to apply varnish to the repainted surface. This product is suitable for all leathers and can even be used for a change of colour. The colour of this product is obtained by adding pigments, and our colourists will do the work for you so that you get the colour you expect.
Aerosol paint: a 2-in-1 spray paint
Our spray paint contains the paint AND the fixing varnish. It is available in a satin or matt finish of your choice and is easy to apply by spraying, using the usual spray-paint techniques. Fast drying!
Renovating your shoes and leather goods with leather paint
Leather is a material used in furnishing, but also in clothing and leather goods. Just like a sofa or a living-room armchair, it is possible to renovate or customise bags or shoes, for example. Sofolk leather paint is also available in different sizes for shoes.
Several colours are available. It can be used to completely cover the existing colour, as well as to conceal repairs. This paint is applied in two or three coats with a brush.

The advantages of leather paints
