The different steps for dyeing your leatherette or imitation leather
To successfully dye your car seats, here are the key steps to follow:
1. Prepare the surface
First make sure that your seats are thoroughly cleaned and free of dirt, dust or other residues. Use a specific product for cleaning leather and imitation leather, such as the Sofolk stain remover and degreaser cleaner.
2. Choose the right dye
Once the cleaning is done, choose the most appropriate leatherette dye for your car seat according to the material (furnishing, outdoor or professional imitation leather). Sofolk offers paints suited to each type of material. If you are unsure of the composition of your seats, contact us. Also consult the colour charts provided by car manufacturers to choose the colour that best matches your expectations.
3. Apply the dye to the seats
Follow the recommendations in the instructions for applying the dye: some products must be applied with a roller and others with a spray gun / airbrush.
4. Fix the dye
To ensure the dye lasts better, particularly against rubbing and other external damage, do not forget to apply our Protective Varnish. This colourless product is also compatible with real leather and is available in different levels of gloss (satin, matt or gloss).
