How do I remove a stain left by dark blue jeans on a white leatherette sofa?

· 2 replies · 44703 views

Hello,

I would like to know how to remove a stain left by dark blue jeans on my white leatherette sofa. I have tried various methods: silver stone + vinegar, window cleaner, household cleaner, soap; but the stain has not gone at all. What should I do?

And how can I protect my sofa to prevent this from happening again?

Thank you for your reply.

    Hello,

Your stain is probably very ingrained. In reality, it is the dye from your trousers that has run onto the leatherette of your white sofa. The dye is very tenacious, especially if it has had time to dry.

Since you have tried many mild products, you can try acetone. Acetone may solve your problem as it is a solvent-based product that removes colour. Nevertheless, it is likely to leave a halo. Try diluting the acetone with 50% water first, then reduce the dilution if the problem persists.

If this solution does not work, you will in that case have to consider repainting it white over the top, to hide your dye stain.

Also remember to regularly protect your leatherette sofa with a suitable varnish. Indeed, varnish is a sort of transparent film that absorbs rubbing and also protects the surface a little from possible stains...

    Hello,

I have had the same problem twice on my leather sofa. The first time with a cushion that had run, and the second time with a pair of jeans...

So I was a bit like you and had tried every product and tip to remove this dye stain from my leather sofa and nothing worked. Until I came across a forum where a lady talked about hairspray! And it is honestly super effective. You just spray some on the dye stain and wait to see it dissolve.

It is less harsh than acetone and, if your stain is not yet too deeply ingrained, it should solve your problem.

Keep us posted on whether it works or if you have found another way to make the stain disappear.
