REPROTEX leather and faux leather: hide the smooth look of your repairs

A cut, a deep scratch or a well-repaired crack often leaves a perfectly smooth patch in the middle of grained leather. Even once painted, this smooth surface catches the light differently and draws the eye. SOFOLK REPROTEX leather and faux leather is a colourless texturing aerosol: it rebuilds a surface texture on the repaired area, before painting.

It does not reproduce the original grain: it lays down a slight relief, a rough feel and a slightly granular effect that break up the smooth look of the repair. Once the colour has been applied, the area blends in with the rest of the leather and the repair is far less noticeable.

The perfect partner for RÉPACUIR repair paste

REPROTEX leather and faux leather complements RÉPACUIR leather repair paste: once the area has been filled, sanded and degreased, a few passes of the aerosol are enough to give it relief again. It is much simpler than true grain reproduction, which involves taking an impression with REPROGRAIN paste and then transferring it with RÉSIGRAIN resin or with the repair paste: no impression, no moulding, just a spray. Grain reproduction remains the method for faithfully copying the original grain; REPROTEX is the quick way to hide a repair.

Which leathers is it for?

REPROTEX is designed above all for grained leather and textured faux leather, where a smooth repair stands out. On smooth or very smooth leather it serves no purpose: there, the repair must on the contrary remain perfectly smooth.

It belongs to the REPROTEX family: the same principle as our REPROTEX for plastics, with a formula reserved for leather and faux leather.

Fine grain or coarse grain: which finish should you choose?

• Fine grain: a subtle granular effect, for leather and faux leather with a light, tight grain (seats and steering wheels of many recent cars, door panels, leather goods).
• Coarse grain: a more pronounced relief, for leather with a marked grain and textured faux leather (seats, benches, sofas and armchairs).

Tip: always test on a sample area first. The more thin coats you build up, the more marked the grain: this is how you adjust the relief.

Which repairs is it for?

• Areas left smooth after a repair with RÉPACUIR repair paste
• Cuts and tears closed with Cicacuir and then filled
• Filled cracks and sanded areas that have become smooth
• Areas worn by rubbing (seat bolsters, armrests)

Instructions for use

1. Preparation: the repair (with RÉPACUIR repair paste, for example) must be dry and sanded. Remove the dust, then degrease the area with leather cleaner and degreaser.
2. Protection: mask off the surrounding areas you do not want to texture.
3. Application: shake the aerosol vigorously, then always spray a thin coat, keeping a steady distance.
4. Adjustment: build up thin coats until you reach the desired relief; the more coats, the more grain.
5. Painting: leave to dry for about ten minutes, then apply leather paint in the colour of your leather and protect with the appropriate varnish. REPROTEX is designed to be painted over.
