308 TEP/Alcantara upholstery

· 4 replies · 6092 views

Hello,

I would like some advice on carrying out a touch-up/restoration on a seat from a 308 GT phase 2.

After some research, the covering is apparently a TEP leatherette in the Mistral colour.

I have attached some photos showing wear from rubbing and also cracks after pressing on the material.

What kind of touch-up is possible? Will it be noticeable?

I had spotted the leatherette restoration kit with the manufacturer's colour code, but I find the quantity/volume a bit too large for my needs. It is admittedly better advised to recolour the entire seat, but since it is a part TEP/Alcantara seat, the area is clearly separated from the rest.

Awaiting your reply,

Kind regards,

M. HERON

    Hello,

Repairing leatherette is complicated. The problem with this material is that when it cracks, the material curls upwards (unlike leather). As a result, the difficulty is not filling in the missing material, but making sure the curled-up parts are brought back into line.
We therefore have products to repair / fill and to repaint the leatherette, but it will be up to you to show some ingenuity to obtain a repair that is as discreet as possible. Perhaps a neoprene glue could help to bring the edges of the cracks back into line...

As for the products, and in particular the Pigment Leather Paint made from a manufacturer's reference: we do not offer less than 250 ml, which is enough to recolour 1 complete seat (or, in your case, 2 two-material seats).

Thank you for your quick reply!

OK, I understand that repairs on leatherette are ultimately more delicate than on real leather. So I will take note of the advice and still attempt a restoration.

Even if it may not last, at least I will manage to get a uniform shade back on the surface.

Thank you for sharing the information!

    Kind regards.

PS: I may attach photos of the result!

    Hello,

I have the same problem, on the same car. Have you found a solution?
If so, I would be interested in the photos of the result and in knowing which shade to choose for the TEP.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi Rom1,

For the touch-up/restoration of your 308 GT phase 2 seat, you can consider a few solutions. First, you could try using a product specific to leatherette, suited to the Mistral colour. That should help to reduce the rubbing marks and cracks. However, the touch-up may be slightly visible, but that will depend on your touch-up skills.

If you find that the leatherette restoration kit with the manufacturer's colour code is too large for your needs, you can look for alternatives, such as small bottles of paint or dye specific to leatherette, available in specialist shops.

In any case, I recommend testing on a small, discreet area of the seat before carrying out the full touch-up, to see whether the result suits you.

I hope this helps you with your touch-up. Good luck!
