Renovating a leather steering wheel (Tips and tricks)
Hello,
I have a rather smooth leather steering wheel and black non-gloss.
This steering wheel is fitted to a BMW and is the original steering wheel (it is 10 years old). It is equipped (like many others) with an airbag, horn, various steering wheel controls.
Over time, it is slightly damaged on one side by about 15 centimetres (window side). The rest of the steering wheel is in a pretty good state (no scratches, no holes, no tears)
What bothers me is that the damaged part is unpleasant to the touch. I'm not a leather expert, but it would almost look like nubuck, without the soft side.
My questions:
1 - Can your leather renovation product solve my problem (Opinions differ on this subject)
2 - Is it possible to carry out this partial renovation or is it necessary to redo the entire steering wheel?
3 - Should the steering wheel be dismantled?
4 - At the seams, should you also sand or can the repair be invisible without sanding there?
5 - How much time should be allowed for this renovation?
6 - Can you describe the steps of the renovation to give visibility to potential buyers who, like me, may be a little sceptical about their ability to carry out this renovation alone?
Thank you in advance for your answers.
