Restoring a saddle

· 1 replies · 1626 views

Hello, I am planning to restore this saddle. I would like a result close to new (which I have already seen on a car's upholstery; the result is great).
I am at the cleaning stage, using an automotive cleaning/degreasing agent. It has been heavily greased and is therefore very dirty. I am thinking of also going over it with ammonia, which is great for greasy and waxy residues.

After that, I do not know which procedure and products to use. The same as on car upholstery?

Sanding, acetone, colour and varnish?

Thank you for your products!

    Hello,

On your saddle, we recommend using dye rather than Pigment Leather Paint.

The dye will recolour deep into the material and your leather will keep an authentic look. The leather paint would give a more artificial, uniform appearance and would be more prone to abrasion. Moreover, the leather paint would not adhere after the moisturising you have carried out. Do not sand the leather, unlike the method with leather paint.

After colouring, apply a protective wax. It will give a very warm feel and limit abrasion of the leather.
