Renovating a two-tone saddle

Hello, I would like to renovate my two-tone saddle, repair the scratches and other signs of wear and, if possible, tint it to make it more uniform in a single colour, such as tan.

What sequence and which products do you recommend?

When you talk about sanding, what equipment should be used?

With my thanks.

Laurence

    Hello Laurence,

Thank you for these details. Here are the detailed steps and the recommended products to renovate your leather saddle, repair the scratches and tint it a uniform tan colour.

    Leather Renovation Steps

    1. Preparing the Surface

      • Sanding: Use our 240 to 400 grit abrasive sponge to lightly sand the leather. This breaks the original varnish. Do not press hard on areas where the leather is worn, and avoid sanding the seams.
      • Cleaning: Remove dirt and sanding residue, then degrease with acetone only.
    2. Repairing the Leather

      • Repair Paste: Use our repair paste to fill the scratches and other signs of wear. Apply the paste with a flexible spatula and leave it to dry. If necessary, sand lightly after drying to obtain a smooth surface.
    3. Recolouring

      • Pigment Leather Paint: Apply the pigment leather paint in the tan colour over the whole surface of the saddle. Use a high-density foam roller or a small brush for an even application.
    4. Protection

      • Clear Protective Varnish: Apply a clear protective varnish to protect the new colour and extend the life of your saddle. Use a foam roller or a dampened sponge for the application.

    Recommended Products

    • Sandpaper (240 to 400 grit): To lightly sand the leather.
    • Acetone: To degrease the leather after sanding.
    • Repair Paste: To fill the scratches and other signs of wear.
    • Pigment Leather Paint: To tint the saddle tan.
    • Clear Protective Varnish: To protect the new colour.
    • Nourishing oil: To rehydrate the leather after renovation

    Equipment Required

    • Paper towels: To clean off sanding residue.
    • High-density foam roller, small brush, sponge and flexible spatula: For applying the products.
