Ideal for Maintaining and Reviving Black Leather

For Regular Care and Gentle Recoloration of Black Leather

Over the years, black leather loses its depth: areas exposed to rubbing turn greyish and the colour looks dull. SOFOLK Black Varnish is a lightly pigmented varnish that revives the black and, in the same step, leaves a protective film against rubbing, dirt and UV. It is a 2-in-1 solution for caring for black leather without a full recolouring.

It is suitable for smooth black leather (not suede-type leathers) and most black faux leathers: car seats, sofas, armchairs, bags or shoes. It is not intended for light-coloured or coloured leather.

Black varnish or recolouring: which should you choose?

• Dull black leather, with no deep wear: the black varnish is enough. It revives the colour and protects.
• Damaged leather or very faded colour: a proper recolouring with leather paint is the better option. The leather paint already provides the black, so the finish is done with silky varnish: there is no point adding black varnish on top.

How many coats?

It all depends on the starting condition. Leather that is simply dull gets its black back in a few coats; very worn leather needs more. Apply coat after coat until you reach the black you want.

Coverage: 200 ml (or one 400 ml aerosol) covers about one and a half car seats, one and a half sofa seats or a complete armchair; 500 ml is enough for a whole vehicle or a 3-seater sofa.

Preparation and application

1. Clean and degrease the surface with the stain remover cleaner, then let it dry.
2. Test first on an inconspicuous area.
3. Apply in thin coats with a slightly damp sponge, or with a rabbit’s foot applicator: it leaves fewer bubbles than a sponge or a foam roller.
4. Allow 3 to 4 hours to dry between coats (drying time varies with temperature and humidity).

With nourishing oil: ideally, feed the leather with the nourishing oil before the varnish, as it then soaks in more easily and more quickly. Apply the varnish about 7 days later, on a perfectly degreased surface. You can still feed the leather after varnishing, but the oil then takes much longer to work through the film.

Catalyst: in the bottle, the black varnish can be catalysed at 5% with the catalyst for even better rub resistance. The catalyst is never added to the aerosol.

Aerosol version: this is a solvent-based product. Read the label and work in a well-ventilated area.

Long-term care

Repeat the application once or twice a year on the most heavily used areas: seat, bolsters, armrests.
