Repairing a scuffed and cracked leather coat and recolouring in 3 colours

· 4 replies · 2144 views

Hello

I would like to restore this leather motorcycle coat. It has been well lived in.

In places the leather is scuffed, and in others (especially on the white) it is cracked.

I have looked at your products but I am not sure.

Could you tell me whether the procedure is correct, and which products and quantities are needed.

lightly sand the leather

degrease it (would petrol be suitable? )

recolour the red, which is not damaged

For the black and the white, apply repair paste and use a grain impression reproduction paste

then recolour

and finally apply the protective wax and the nourishing oil.

Here are the photos so you can see the damage and the shades of colour

Thank you in advance

Your procedure is suited to this project.

For degreasing, I would still recommend acetone, as I have no feedback on petrol.

Be sure to sand the cracked areas thoroughly; it is crucial to smooth them as much as possible.

On the other hand, I advise against the grain reproduction paste; it is suitable for a very small area such as a cigarette burn, for example.

For the finish, wax is the highest quality option, but it means reapplying it quite often (every 1 or 2 months), whereas with the aerosol varnish you get about 1 year of protection (but a less pleasant feel).

The minimum quantities of leather paint will be sufficient, 250 ml.

OK great, thank you for your advice

the quantity of colour is 250 ml for each colour, is that right?

would you have the link for the red shade?

and finally for the wax, it does not matter if it has to be redone often.

I forgot to ask you. What quantity of repair paste, given that all the white needs to be redone and almost all the black as well.

Please note that the paste is not intended to be applied in large patches. It must be worked into the crevices and cracks, and any excess removed as far as possible.

The quantity is difficult to estimate, but try with 3 tubes of black paste (to repair the red and the black) and 2 tubes of white paste (for the white only).
