Could you tell me the difference between the leather paints found in supermarkets and the leather dyes you sell?

Hello,

The only common point that can exist between the products sold in the supermarkets and the recolourants that we manufacture is the application of the product, which is done with a brush, foam roller or sponge. Our pigment re-colouring agent is made with the same raw materials as those used for the original colouring. This is why it is essential to open the leather with the stripper (or by sanding), to allow the re-colourant to fix itself definitively.

The pigment creams that are sold in specialized supermarkets are a bit like waxes.... They restore colour and shine but only for a few months. Their covering power is indeed lower, it is not necessary to be exactly in the expected color when doing a partial recolorization. In short, these creams only superficially tint the leather for a few months only, while our Pigment Colourant covers like a paint. This is called surface staining. Sofolk Pigment Recolourant is a perfectly balanced compromise between penetrant, tack and covering power.

We hope to have answered your question properly.

Thank you for your answer! I now understand the difference much better. Your leather painting products are ultimately much more durable, but still require a little more preparatory work so that they can attach properly to the leather if I understand correctly.

You have understood correctly! It is necessary to take care of the preparation before colouring, as for example to repaint an old wooden door: strip, plug the holes, recolour and finally varnish. The recolouring of leather has many similarities with wood paint. Dye or paint.
