Restoring and caring for a boat saloon

· 2 replies · 3238 views

Hello. I live on a boat and my saloon is in leather: it is very worn and in places has large water marks from leaks that dried when it was not being looked after. I have no idea how to get rid of these stains, or whether it is even possible. If I darken it, will it hold? Thank you in advance for your reply. Marie

    Hello,

You will need 1 litre of leather paint to recolour your upholstery. The stains will disappear completely.

Then apply a protective wax .

    Hi,

I see that you have water stains on your leather saloon. That is a shame, because leather is a noble and elegant material, but also sensitive to damp. It therefore needs to be protected and cleaned with care. Here are a few tips to get rid of your stains and restore the shine of your leather:

To clean the water stains, you can use a magic eraser (a white sponge) and rub it over the leather. It is a simple and effective method that does not damage the leather. Alternatively, you can use a cleansing milk applied with a soft cloth. These products are gentle and moisturising for the leather. You can find them in supermarkets or pharmacies.

To nourish and protect the leather, you can use petroleum jelly spread over the leather with a soft cloth. Leave it to soak in for 30 minutes, then wipe off the excess. The petroleum jelly will form a barrier against water and stains. You can also use a product designed specifically for leather, which you can find in specialist shops or on the internet. These products are formulated to care for leather and give it back its softness and shine.

To prevent water stains from forming again, you should avoid getting the leather wet. If your saloon is exposed to rain or splashes, cover it with a tarpaulin or a waterproof sheet. If your saloon is exposed to the sun, avoid leaving it there for too long, as the sun can make the leather crack. You can also use a waterproofing spray for leather, sprayed on after cleaning and nourishing it. This will strengthen the leather's protection against water and stains.

There you go, I hope this helps you to save your leather saloon. Do feel free to show us the result after the treatment. Have a good day!
