Reinstatement of corvette c4 seats 1985

13 answers
Hello, I just bought a 1985 Corvette C4... The seats are not really damaged but originally they were visibly beige (the original ones were too worn...) Now they are black but they look like they have been repainted with a black bomb... (Sunday handyman band...)I didn't find anything on the net if the seats are made of leather or PVC... I would have to remove the cover to see, which is impossible for the moment... Do you think it is possible to make a hook and re-dye these originally, i. e. "Rouge-Bordeaux"? http://content.mamotorworks.com/img300/fr9680.jpgA evening that the leather covers as originally proposed are offered at 1.638,00 Eur... Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hello,

Please send us pictures to get more information. The problem of leather or leatherette will be easy to fix. In case of doubt, we will use a recolouring agent compatible with both materials.

Hello,

We think the first thing to do is to try to remove the black paint on a small surface (the least exposed) with acetone. If this recoloration starts easily it will be possible to consider a recoloration in burgundy red.

Hello,

Isn't there a risk that Acetone will melt the material?

I'll try it within the week.

Thank you. Thank you.

Hello,

If it is leather there is no risk, but if it is leatherette it is better to dilute the acetone with a little water to start.

Hello,

It's leatherette...

Acetone removes some of the black but not all of it. The leatherette sticks after but it reacts pretty well if you don't insist too much.

It all depends on the result to be achieved.

Do you have to remove everything or just the glossy film in order to get the grip for the red?

Hello,

Remove as much black paint as possible is important, we have a stronger product than acetone if necessary, the leather should not stick before re-coloring.

Have you tried pure acetone?

answer

Yes pure acetone because diluted it is difficult to remove

In the car seat leather renovation kit you will have the stripper to finalize the stripping.

I remind you that this is a Skai seat.

Wouldn't the kit be better: https://www.renovation-du-cuir.fr/en-gb/car/leather-seat/recolorant-leatherette-,-vinyl-tous-coloris--resk.html

Are you sure that the seats are made of leatherette, can you cut a slice of leather or leatherette under a seat with a cutter?

answer

Yes 100% sure

Unfortunately black does not go to acetone and leatherette takes for its rank

If it's paint maybe that white spirit is more effective, we can't see on the picture if it's really leatherette, we need a close-up.
